Raygon was born to Rufus and Margo LeBayne in a small village in northern Jaggarth in 3 N.S. He was an only child, as his mother died during childbirth; it is said because of Raygon's abnormally large head. Rufus sent the babe to live with his sister and her husband in southern Jaggarth to be raised on their farm, as Rufus was anything but a family man and felt the young babe needed a mother. Raygon's aunt and uncle were very strict with him, but raised him healthy and gave him a reasonable education. he returned to live with his father at the age of 9 and lived with Rufus for a short time. However, Rufus is ill-suited to raising a child, and he tried to apprentice Raygon to a local craftsman, but the apprenticeship didn't last, as Raygon was not adept at craftwork.
Now in his teens, Raygon left his home village and found his way to a local monastery of Meredros run by the order of the Way of Truth. He worked there for several years as a page boy and servant and finally joined as a devotee at the age of 16. Shortly thereafter, the deacon of the order advised Raygon to go forth and seek his destiny, for he felt the lad was aimless and not suited for a monastic life and would only learn the way of truth by living at large in the world.
Raygon did indeed head out into
the world, but instead of questing fervently for truth and upholding
the other tenets of Meredros, he became a mercenary and guard
for hire, travelling around Jaggarth, Imtorr, and the Empire of
Antoria. He served for a while in the wars between Imtorr and
the Wolf Riders, as well as fighting in Vilgum against the hordes
that spilled out of the Death Marches. As that situation stabilized,
he headed eastward, mainly acting as a caravan guard. Once in
the Empire, he took up steady work as leader of a group of bodyguards
hired out to the wealthy of Antoria, and in this fashion, became
associated with House Riverine, having been hired by several nobles
allied to that Merchant House. On one bodyguard and caravan mission
north to the Far Coast, he became fascinated with the frontier
and its combination of civilization and untamed rawness, and it
seemed to suit him. In Dwillingir, he used the recommendation
of his last Imperial client to join with House Riverine as an
associate in Dwillingir and to serve as a warrior under Lord Marco
du Coppi, the House Enforcer to Barnabus the Trade Lord.
