Background:

Gabriel Sandalphon was an 18th century New Englander who, in a fit of rage, murdered his uncle, a respected preacher. For his crimes, Gabriel was captured, tortured, and executed by the authorites of the time. Condemned to Hell, he was twisted into a demon in the service of Mephisto, but while serving in Hell's legions, a spark of conscience remained within the twisted a tortured husk. When a modern day sorcerer attempted to summon and control Gabriel to perform a vile act upon the family of a rival, Gabriel saw a chance to redeem himself and refused. Moreso, he captured the sorcerer and made sure that the man was given over th authorities and locked away. As the time of his summons began to run out, Gabriel knelt and prayed for forgiveness. So heartfelt were his words that an angel appeared to him and told him that he would be given a chance to redeem himself and one day enter the Kingdom of Heaven. To do so, Gabriel would be allowed to remain on earth. He must dedicate his life to doing good and righting wrongs, so that one day, when the table of his good outweighs the table of his woe, he may be judged accordingly.

And so it is that Gabriel Sandalphon now resides once more on the mortal plane. Disguised as a human (in the image of his murdered uncle) he seeks to redeem himself and to serve the greater good.

Known as Fallen Angel, Gabriel has all of the classic vulnerabilities of demonkind. Even though he is acting on behalf of the forces of heaven now, he still cannot abide holy water or church grounds or the sight of crosses presented before him. In his demon form, he is hunted by the members of the Church of Universal Sanctity, whose leader was confronted by Fallen Angel for embezzling church funds. The leader escaped and now makes it his mission to track down, expose, and ultimately destroy Fallen Angel. Fortunately, the church leader does not know of Fallen Angel's human identity.

In addition, Gabriel's old master Mephisto is none-to-pleased about losing one of his lieutenants, especially the murderer of a preacher, to the hosts of heaven. Although barred from directly attacking or reclaiming Gabriel, Mephisto works his wiles to try to corrupt Gabriel or to throw him into despair in the hopes that Fallen Angel will forsake his redemption and return to the fires of Hell.

When in demon form, Fallen Angel is quite powerful, but very firghtening to behold. His powers come int he form of hellish incantations, and he effects the popular demonic mode of speaking in rhymes, though this only manifests during stress and only while in demonic form.
