ARGUS' INTRODUCTION

You were contracted by House Riverine shortly after your graduation from the Imperial College of Transmutation in the Imperial Heartland. With your family's debt to the college and its recent mercantile misfortunes, the family could not let the back tuitions owed to the college linger, and they could not renege on the debt, for fear of spending the rest of their lives in an alternate and much less pleasant form. It was by calling in some favours from former acquaintances who were close to the Riverine House in Dwillingir that your father was able to wheedle a position for you that would pay off the family debt.

In essence, you realized, you have been indentured to the Dwillingir outpost of House Riverine, though of course you expected your duties to be far more erudite than those normally heaped upon indentured servants. Some discussion with your father and a little calculation of the terms of your servitude indicate that you will owe fealty to House Riverine for a period of at least 6 years and possibly as long as 8 years.

While most might have resisted the notion of servitude, when you learned that you would serve under a respected transmuter named Curinax, you relished the opportunity to learn more of your lore from a master of the arts. And so, you packed up your belongings into 3 chests and hopped aboard a large Riverine caravan headed north through the Imperium, the Upper Marches, and finally to the Far Coast.

The trip was uneventful, though you enjoyed the chance to occasionally snatch a plant or fungus that was new or rare to you. Finally, you arrived at Dwillingir and House Riverine. As you climbed off of the wagon and a few of the nicer caravaners helped you with your things, a man emerged from the house and confirmed your identity. He then offered to take you to meet your new master, Curinax. As you enthusiastically answered "Great! I can't wait to meet him", your escort merely rolled his eyes and chuckled to himself, causing you to reflect on exactly what you were getting into.
