Gastornin is a 25 year old merchant who inherited his trade routes from his father, who died in N.S. 20 of natural causes. At the time, Gastornin was training to be a wizard under the tutelage of a wizard in Far Dereth who was a friend of the family. Gastornin gave up his arcane studies, having mastered cantrips only, and went about learning and running the family business.
Gastornin is an astute businessman, and he is concerned with building on his father's legacy and making his father proud of him. As such, he is an energetic and sometimes ruthless competitor, but he plows his profits back into his business and does not engage in self-aggrandisement.
In N.S. 24, Gastornin's business was devastated by the crystal blight that hit the Gerilong silk crops, which he had heavily invested in. Although this did not bankrupt the merchant, it did force him to seek closer ties with House Riverine and to keep an eye open for other activities. He had inherited the position of Associate Trader from his father, and he now seeks to get in good with the young up-and-comers in House Riverine.
