Hammunil is in his mid 50's, a hawk-nosed man with short dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. He was a respected soldier of the Third Imperial Legion in his youth, and rose to the rank of Lieutenant, serving on the Upper Antorian front during the War of the Gem. During this time, something happened to him, for he was reported missing for several weeks and when he wandered back into camp he refused to explain what happened to him, claiming he got separated behind enemy lines and that he snuck back to the camp over the course of the two weeks.
In actuality, Hammunil was taken captive by a fiend in the service of Asmodeus. The fiend tortured Hammunil, and eventually twisted his mind until the soldier confessed any and all information he had about coming battle plans. The soldier managed to escape and return to his men, but he felt a deepening guilt at having broken under torture, especially since he was too ashamed to reveal to his commanders that their plans had been compromised. And so he witnessed the death of many of his men at the hands of the Deceiver's armies that seemed to anticipate every battle plan the Third Legion could throw at them.
When the war ended, the Third Legion was assigned to the Far Coast and Hammunil commanded punitive expeditions against the Thaneeri. During this time he married and had several sons and daughters. After some years of this, his term of service ended, and he retired to a farm near Far Dereth. However, the guilt he felt at betraying his men those long years ago would not let him rest, and when his wife died of natural causes, he felt restless and left the farm in the hands of his eldest progeny.
Meanwhile, he moved to Dwillingir and became a slave trader. His success in this endeavour brought him to the notice of House Riverine, and he eventually rose up the ranks in the House, finally earning a permanent room in the Guild House.
During his days as a slaver, the constant sight of slaves in chains and his remembrance of his own captivity twisted his soul even more, and his brush with the fiend of Asmodeus caused him to seek out that lord, possibly in a misguided effort to try and banish his own personal demons. Instead, he fell in with a vile priest of Asmodeus, who offered to initiate Hammunil into the Cult of Asmodeus. Hammunil proved his dedication by poisoning a Consul in the Third Legion whom he invited to dine with him under false pretenses, and with that he was given his Evil Brand, this being on his inner thigh in the form of a scarred tattoo showing a man flaying the skin from the backs of chained female slaves.
As guilt and evil warred with what remained of Hammunil's conscience, he became more and more sullen and stoic on the outside and the joy escaped most of his life. He sought relief in hedonistic pleasures, including drugs and erotic encounters with slave women.
For many years the man dealt in slaves, often using and abusing the pretty females and often paying for illegal raids into Thaneer. Sometimes the slave women he played with ended up hurt or dead, whether from rough play or sacrifice to Asmodeus.
However, Hammunil's misdeeds caught up with him when he enacted a ritual he thought would heighten an erotic escapade he was having with a comely slave girl in his parlour. Instead the ritual summoned and set loose a bearded devil into House Riverine. A slave woman of the House was brutally slain by the devil, which was subsequently captured by Curinax. As a bargain, Curinax agreed to free the fiend if it divulged who summoned it and why. The fiend gleefully informed the wizard that Hammunil had summoned him. A search for Hammunil showed that the slaver had fled House Riverine, and that he was a secret worshipper of Asmodeus.
When Veribor learned, a while later, of Hammunil's whereabout in Dwillingir and that he was considering joining House Mercur, the Enforcer dispatched some of his agents to slay the rogue slaver. Hammunil was slain and his body burned.
