Jalikin'ilivy was birthed two decades too late. During the War of the Gem, his kind were in high demand on both sides of the conflict…for obvious reasons. But born of doppelganger parents in the aftermath of the War, he found treasuries emptied, kingdoms tired of war, and little chance for intrigues. His parents died poor, scraping a living in a cavern at the southeastern terminus of the Grashtilim Mountains near the head of the River of Tears.

When his parents passed away, he left and made his way southeast, getting by through a combination of robbery, deceit, and an occasional legitimate job. At various times, as he passed into Jaggarth, he learned the ways of humans and joined several thieves' guilds, usually spending only a short amount of time before eventually deceiving and robbing the guild itself and having to get out of town quickly.

During this time, Jalikin'ilivy practiced and honed his shapechanging abilities into an art form and also learned the ways of the rogue.

Eventually, when word began to spread amongst the thieves' guilds of Jaggarth that a doppelganger was loose amongst them, Jalikin'ilivy fled south into the Upper Antorian Marches and then into the Far Coast, looking for good pickings amongst those whom he regarded as unsophisticated provincials.

Jalikin'ilivy joined with the thieves' guild of Dwillingir and proved himself for close to a year before finally deciding to strike at its leader. The doppelganger slew Fasgerinith, the leader of the guild, and took his place, passing off the mutilated and burned body of the leader for his guildmember identity.

It was through his contacts and position as head of the Dwillingir Thieves' Guild that Jalikin'ilivy became envious of the wealth and status of the Merchant Houses. Now quite confident in his abilities, the doppelganger went after no less than Trade Lord Barnabus himself, and managed to capture the Lord and assume his place.

Unlike Fasgerinith, however, Jalikin'ilivy realized he knew little about running a Merchant House, so he has kept the real Barnabus alive and prisoner in the Thieves' Guild, so that he can question and read the thoughts of the Trade Lord and thereby learn the responsibilities and position of the master of the House.

Of course, the wily Jalikin'ilivy has divined the opportunities that come from heading both a Merchant House and a Thieves' Guild, and he has subtly guided his thieves to practice slightly more of their depredations on Riverine's rivals than on Riverine. This bias is very slight…slight enough to avoid suspicion, but enough to allow Riverine to profit overall ahead of its rivals.

As an added benefit, Jalikin'ilivy has been able to bed Barnabus' lovely wife Abrinda. He is completely unaware that Abrinda is a succubus in the employ of House Mercur.

Jalikin'ilivy does not have an end game to his plan. Like most doppelgangers, he intends to milk his position for as long as he can, enjoying the wealth and power it affords, and then try to flee when he is found out and before he is slain or captured.

Currently, Jalikin'ilivy spends most of his time as Barnabus. He spent several years securing his position in the Thieves' Guild very carefully and somewhat brutally, so that now he is obeyed almost without question. Of course, his ability to detect thoughts and impersonate guildmembers has lent to the effectiveness of his iron grip on the Guild. As such, his trusted lieutenants basically run the day-to-day operations of the Guild, and Jalikin'ilivy only has to sneak into the Guild via the town sewers on rare occasions.

Jalikin'ilivy infiltrated House Riverine in NS 20, about a year before the Riverine Campaign begins.

He was slain by the PCs in Harvest N.S. 23.
