* Nemis Mind Splinter: This is a small sapphire chip glows and twinkles with a strange radiance. The chip is set upon a silver choker chain. The mind splinter is one third of a large sapphire formerly inset into a rod that was specially prepared by demons in the service of the drow matron N'araktheel to capture the wizard Nemis. Once captured, the gem was splintered into three parts, each containing a facet of Nemis (mind, body, and soul).

The mind splinter contains the mind of Nemis, and given his status as a wizard, this is the most powerful splinter. Normally, possession of this splinter would merely allow one to read the thoughts of Nemis if the splinter were touched. However, Ragyfir underwent a ritual performed by the uridezu F'harrik'il and had a portion of Nemis' soul bound between himself and Nemis' mind. This has allowed Ragyfir to command Nemis' mind and to allow Nemis to work his wizardly magic through Ragyfir's body.

Ordering Nemis to cast a spell is a free action. However, the actual casting of the spell takes the standard amount of time, and Ragyfir supplies the somatic, verbal, and material components. The spells seem to emanate from the gem, and for most purposes the wearer of the gem is considered to be the caster (e.g. for spells with a range of caster or personal).

Nemis sees through the wearer's eyes and can rememorize spells by having the wearer study his spellbooks.

Mind-affecting spells may be cast on the gem and will affect Nemis' mind accordingly.

The gem radiates strong conjuration magic.

Only those statistics relevant to Nemis' current state are presented below. Nemis has been cut off from access to the Spellpool of his Order.

Ragyfir is the leader of a mercenary group known as the Splintered Arrows. The name came from their first job, that brought them together, when they were used to sack an elvish caravan heading from Jaggarth to Blanthil. The 34 year old man started life as a waif in Imtorr whose parents had been killed during the War of the Gem. His toughness and cleverness allowed him to survive the famines that followed the War, and he eventually fell in with a pack of thieves and made his way to adulthood stealing and robbing in Imtorr. When his master was captured, Ragyfir fled his city and eventually found himself in Jaggarth. Needing money, he began to hire as a bodyguard and man-at-arms, and learned the craft of fighting. His prowess was noted by an Imperial noble whom he was hired to guard, and the noble recommended he come with him to Antoria and fight as a gladiator in the arenas. In search of excitement, lured by fame, and with the prospect of accumulating his winnings, Ragyfir accepted, and made a name for himself in the arenas of the Imperial Heartland. It was duirng this time that he lost his nose and ear to a dire lion in the arena, and these were replaced by a silver nose and a golden ear.

When his noble patron passed away, Ragyfir left the arena and returned to being a sellsword. However, having now tasted the fruits of fame and wealth that the Empire could offer, he became enamoured of these vices and the sins of greed and pride began to clutch his heart. All that eventually mattered to Ragyfir was his burgeoning reputation and his hedonistic pleasures.

Ragyfir was forced to flee the Empire in NS 12 after he slew a senator's son who had cheated him. He migrated back to Jaggarth and formed the Splintered Arrows, and eventually developed a reputation as a canny fighter of elves. This reputation even caught the notice of N'araktheel, the drow matron, and she eventually utilized the mercenary and his group to capture Nemis on Onlor and to recover Nemis' artifact for her. Ragyfir has since served House Mercur in the Far Coast area, no longer afraid of Imperial justice, as he assumes that as long as he stays out of the Heartland, he will not be bothered.

Ragyfir and the Splintered Arrows now serve as Mercur's tough guys and bully boys, and the leader has left a swath of dead foes and a few enemies who hunger for revenge upon him.

Ragyfir now knows that N'araktheel is in control of House Mercur.

The leader of the Splintered Arrows is an evil, hard, and brutal man. He enjoys dominating and hurting those weaker than he and resents those stronger than he. He is very self-confident, but not stupid, and he has learned how to utilize Nemis' mind to best advantage, though he does not flaunt or rely on Nemis' magic, as he feels that will make him weak or reliant upon the mage. He brooks no insults, and will kill a man for looking at him strangely. He demands absolute loyalty from his Splintered Arrows, and although he will not slay a minions for a simple failure, he has been known to punish or slay repeated failures or gross stupidity.
