THE WORD Runequest Campaign
Adventurer's Contract

Written by: Zane Jackman

[Devin's Comments: While certainly out of character for a normal Orlanthi barbarian to craft such a document, one can only assume that Kiri had some roving Lunar scribe draft the thing, since the contract is very much in the traditional Lunar bureaucratic style. Such contracts have to be rare or non-existent in Glorantha really; this type of document being more suited to AD&D campaign worlds, but it suited the party well enough.]

This contract is for the party which chooses to accompany Lord Kiri Windstorm. All who voluntarily choose to accompany shall abide by the terms herein. Failure to abide by these terms shall be subject to punishment stated hereafter.

ARTICLE 1:

The party shall be divided into 3 classifications of members to facilitate greater party unity.

The first is "Party Leader", who shall be placed in charge of all other party members and be given the responsibility over the basic day-to-day activities of the prest of the party. Note that the Party leader shall not be given the power to force other members to break cults restrictions or to limit their free will. The Party Leader shall be chosen by vote of Full Members with a 2/3rds vote necessary to approve a new Party Leader.

Second are "Full Members", who shall receive full benefits and succor from the rest of the party and Party Leader but shall defer command to the Party Leader.

Last are "New Members" and "Hirelings". These shall be treated with respect, although they shall not be given the full privileges of equality until they have proven to be of sufficient value to the party. Any New member shall be on a probationary period not to exceed a period of two seasons (excluding Sacred Time). At no time shall a New Member or Hireling be considered a Full member unless 2/3rds of the current Full members agree to promote him.

ARTICLE 2:

While the basic adventuring needs of the party vary upon the mission at hand, it shall be the responsibility of each member to provide for his own basic needs unless a separate "party fund" is established for such purposes.

The monetary forms of treasure taken during a mission shall be divided as follows:

The Party leader is given the right to dispense up to 2 extra shares for exceptional acts that benefit the party. If for some reason a party member uses Divine Intervention on behalf of the party, that act shall be worth an additional 5 shares of treasure.

ATRICLE 3:

Magical items that are recovered shall be divided amongst the party members by the Party Leader or by special vote in which at least 2/3rds of the Full Members agree. If no need can be determined or no vote can be settled satisfactorily, then the items are to be sold and the proceeds divided as standard treasure.

ARTICLE 4:

At any time the party may choose to vote on a specific issue which shall be carried out at the most convenient time. Only the Party leader and Full Members may cast a vote that affects the decision at hand. Items to pass must have either a 2/3rds approval or the Party Leader's vote. If 2/3rds of the party votes are in direct opposition to the Party Leader, then the party carries the vote and shall act as such.

To become a Full Member of the party with all of its privileges, a vote must be taken as previously described. Once a person is voted a Full Member and has participated in the party without committing any traitorous acts, then he may leave and rejoin the party at a later date without requiring another vote.

At no time shall a member be forced to act against cult vows or partake in a mission that they are against undertaking. However, if a member so chooses to abstain from an adventure, then all treasures garnered while that member is absent are forfeit.

ARTICLE 5:

Member responsibilities include the following. Each member is responsible for the safety of the party as a whole and any reckless or unauthorized actions shall be the responsibility of that member. if such actions cause undue danger for the party or a loss of party members or hirelings, then that member shall be responsible to the rest of the party to face whatever punishment is deemed appropriate. Theft from the party shall be construed as voluntary termination of membership and possibly termination of the thief's life is the party so decides. Non-participation by a member or hireling in the actions necessary to help the party achieve its goals shall be grounds for forfeiture of shares unless such actions are against previously known cult vows.

ARTICLE 6:

Any and all such debts that are made between party members and hirelings shall be noted. In the event that the debtor becomes no longer resurrectable due to circumstances, then their belongings and shares shall be used to pay such debt. If there is leftover, then it shall be distributed in the standard manner of party treasure unless the member has a will stating otherwise.
