Name:
FIRLOTT, Lord of the Chase, Patron of Rangers.
Sphere:
Hunting.
Predominant Areas:
Frontier and Wilderness areas, especially in the Imbar area and along the Western coasts.
Races:
Humans, half elves, elves.
Description:
A man or elf with a bow with two hunting dogs at his feet.
Background:
Firlott is regarded as the patron of hunters and trackers. This does not encompass hunters with no sense of morals or nature, who are more commonly poachers and worship the thief god if anyone. Firlott hunters are respectful of the natural world and the animals they hunt, and they never hunt for sport, only for food or other needs. Nevertheless, they love the thrill of the hunt.
Firlott trackers are commonly rangers, and they hunt prey of a different sort...evil humanoids. Firlott guides these to their enemies. In addition, Firlott is also worshipped by bounty hunters, especially those serving good masters or causes or those serving Druidical masters.
Firlott is regarded as the son of Dhalis and Yimik, and priests and rangers of Firlott will often find succor with priests and worshippers of those gods.
It is said that Firlott invented the bow as a more efficient and less painful way to hunt than death by clubs or spears. Thus, Firlott is also regarded as a patron of bowmen, though he is worshipped in this respect usually by bowmen hunters, as opposed to military bowmen.
Alignment:
Neutral Good.
Favoured Weapon:
Bow.
Priestly Duties:
Priests are expected to attend a hunt along with the hunters. Although the priest will generally not strike a blow against the quarry, they will pronounce an animal fit for prey or not and will then bless the carcass of the animal, sending its soul to its place of resting. Priests are also required to make the killing blow when an animal has been brought down but is still alive. The priest is trained to kill the animal with a knife quickly and painlessly.
Bounty hunting priests often accompany bounty hunters on especially dangerous missions, when magic is likely to be needed or when it is important to capture the quarry alive.
Other Limitations:
Priests must do whatever is possible to stop wanton killing of animals. They frown upon recreational hunting, but if, for example, a nobleman is hunting they may take more subtle actions (like making noise in the distance to frighten away quarry).
Domains:
Animal, Predator, Strength, Luck, Celerity, Endurance.
Holy Symbol(s):
A bow and arrow crossed.
