Reliana's Song

Introduction: This song was written at the behest of a vagabond who pined for his lost love. He requested that the bards present hear his tale and compose songs thereof so spread his message throughout the lands. This is Therrilliar's version.

I saw a dusty vagabond
 a-wandrin' down the road
 with his shoulders heavy bowed
as if he'd borne a burdened load

And when I offered him a drink
and I gave him a little smoke
 he thanked me kindly then
and this is what he spoke:

My heart is like an empty lamp
 no oil fills its frame
no light or warmth from it emits
 there is no dancing flame

For the light of my life
 the beacon of my heart
the fuel of my lost passion
 from her I am apart

And then he told his tale
 both wondrous and also sad
about the magic lamp he found
and the joy with it he had

For within there was a genie
 Reliana was her name
and she would grant three wishes
to give power, coin and fame

And with his first two boons
he did wish for foolish things
but then his heart bespake him
and he wished for her to bring

The love that his life lacked
 the woman that he craved
and that woman was the genie
for her his last wish saved

 And he spake:

My heart is like an empty lamp
 no oil fills its frame
no light or warmth from it emits
 there is no dancing flame

For the light of my life
 the beacon of my heart
the fuel of my lost passion
 from her I am apart

And so he made his last wish
 That Reliana would be free
of the lamp that had enhoused her
and instead that she would be

 The soulmate of the traveler
 The love of Brashin's life
 Their love would surely blossom
she would one day become his wife

 But Brashin was a traveler
Of noble heart but common mein
and he wondered was he worthy
 'pon genie's heart to claim

 For Reliana had bespoken him
 of masters of her past
 they who commanded nations
 and they with fortunes vast

 And he spake:

My heart is like an empty lamp
 no oil fills its frame
no light or warmth from it emits
 there is no dancing flame

For the light of my life
 the beacon of my heart
the fuel of my lost passion
 from her I am apart

 And so did Brashin wonder
if he was worthy of his bride
 and within his heart envy
 did growing...abide

And when he could not stand
 the thought another day
 he left his love Reliana
 and travelled far away

 He travelled many lands
to seek his fortune and his fame
 and only after many years
 did realize to his shame

 That Reliana's love was pure
and her feelings they were true
 and that she loved Brashin
and not what he might do

 And he spake:

My heart is like an empty lamp
 no oil fills its frame
no light or warmth from it emits
 there is no dancing flame

For the light of my life
 the beacon of my heart
the fuel of my lost passion
 from her I am apart

 And so did he return
Alas! to find his love had gone
and so it is I found him
 a-wandrin' for so long

For he seeks his long lost love
 the genie from the lamp
he knows not where she's gone
but his heart still bears her stamp

And so he asks for help
from those who walk the land
if you see Reliana tell her
that her love he is at hand

And he loves her more than all
the world 'pon which he tread
and until he can hold her
his heart, like his lamp, is dead.

And as he left he spake:

My heart is like an empty lamp
 no oil fills its frame
no light or warmth from it emits
 there is no dancing flame

For the light of my life
 the beacon of my heart
the fuel of my lost passion
 from her I am apart
