Tanella's Drag

Introduction: What a bard giveth, a bard taketh away. It is only right that if a bard will sing of those who are evil (The Ballad of Traitors), then that bard should also sing the praises of those who are good.

When Therrilliar fell off of the Greater Fist and died, and was rescued by Tanella, she vowed to write a song about it and sing it throughout the lands. This is that song.

It was a fateful day about a year or two ago
When the wanderlust came over me and I set out to go
So I grabbed my pack and walking stick and headed north a ways
'Til I came upon a mountain covered in a smoky haze

And up the mountain slope I climbed unmindful of the path
even though I could see all around the signs of mountain's wrath
and so it came to pass as I did hug the rocky wall
that my foot it slipped and I was plunged into a deadly fall

The ground came at me quickly and I landed on me head
and at first I thought that I had lived but really I was dead
now let me tell you that that lonely place is not the place to die
so with the final breath of my own soul I gave out Eillie's Cry

Oh...I'll drag yer body down yes
I'll drag yer body down
I will drag it outta danger
Drag it all the way to town

Though the way be fraught with peril
I will see your body through
either none of us will live
or we'll come out of this as two

I waited for an hour or more...I waited in despair
I was starting to believe that no one ever came past there
and I wept the tears of dying for my soul would soon depart
and I'd lose the tools of music's trade...the basis of my art

When through the haze I saw a form climbing up the slope
slogging up the rocky scree without a stick without a rope
and I thought it was Truffenyi coming finally for me
so I said my last rite prayer and prepared for what would be

But I tell you twere no goddess that beside my corpse did kneel
and I wanted to reach out and to make sure this one was real
and as the figure blocked the summer sun from glaring in my eyes
I saw it was Tanella and she said to my surprise....

Oh...I'll drag yer body down yes
I'll drag yer body down
I will drag it outta danger
Drag it all the way to town

Though the way be fraught with peril
I will see your body through
either none of us will live
or we'll come out of this as two

So the bardess grit her teeth and she grabbed me in her hands
and I swear I've never seen her like ever in the lands
for she dragged me over boulders and she dragged me down the trail
and her spirit never flagged and her will it never failed

Right down off the mountainside and through the gritty dust
did Tanella keep her faithful course and do that which she must
With a final gasp of breath she heaved me o'er the battered gate
and she dragged me to a healing spot before it were too late

I lived to tell this tale, how could it be otherwise?
and in thanks I gave to her an opal jewel as a prize
for I still this day have never seen a feat so bold and brave
and I remember still her kind words as to me she came to save....

Oh...I'll drag yer body down yes
I'll drag yer body down
I will drag it outta danger
Drag it all the way to town

Though the way be fraught with peril
I will see your body through
either none of us will live
or we'll come out of this as two
