Introduction: I wrote this song a long time ago, when there were far fewer beasts in Zoluren than there are now. So the song is qquite a bit outdated, and too long to really add more things to it. Nevertheless, it still serves its original function, which is to acquaint novices with nearby dangers.
Therrilliar frequently sings this song to novices coming out of the Tenderfoot Inn.
Script [may be used by any bard as long as Therrilliar is credited]
#Song-Zoluren Beast Song
put say Listen up ye young ones, for I shall sing the Zoluren Beast Song, composed by Therrilliar d'Onlor
pause 5
put sing Harken well to me my lads and lasses;for I shall tell what ye should hear;of the beasts that stalk the swamps and grasses;in the lands afar and the lands a-near
pause 15
put sing In the province land of Zoluren fair;are many beasts evil and fell;and if ye hunt ye should take care;if ye would return alive and well
pause 15
put sing Outside the west gate as ye might wonder;are the fields a-rife with goblins foul;who love to swarm and hack and plunder;beware their swords and curdling howl
pause 15
put sing Beyond those fields in forest deep;and upon the mountain top so high;do the great cougars stalk and creep;so keep a very wary eye
pause 15
put sing And past a trench is the Lake of Dreams;where the weak are lulled to eternal sleep;amid the geysers a water sprite screams;and lipopods wriggle in slimy heap
pause 15
put sing And to the south beyond the gates;overgrown with brush and scrub;is fell Preserve where the burrower waits;and wriggles and writhes the foul corpse grub
pause 15
put sing But beware ere ye travel, at your great cost;into the lands awash with grass;for many a soul is there forever lost;unless through darkness he doth pass
pause 15
put sing The northeast gate bars beasts as well;though vermin mostly they do be;for hogs and boars and rats there dwell;and good hunting there for the novice be
pause 15
put sing But the vineyards hold a diff'rent sight;there the wood trolls rule the open day;and the evil grendels terror the darkened night;and only the brave should pass that way
pause 15
put sing Farther north along the great trade route;the mortal danger doth increase;for in the wilds where death roams about;are terrors that set the blood to freeze
pause 15
put sing Near Kaerna village small;the great rock trolls rave and rant;just beyond the barricade wall;they shake the ground with magic chant
pause 15
put sing The hidden road of the scouts of S'lai;is beyond and near the Stone Clan lair;in abandoned mine do beisswurms lie;and highest up is the dread cave bear
pause 15
put sing Still further north in the deep wood;on sinister path and rocky shore;thou shalt come to an end no good;if you heed not this song's true lore
pause 15
put sing For lurking above and below the ground;are the reavers with their shield and axe;and baying beside them their windhounds;who knock down foes for their masters' whacks
pause 15
put sing Near dreary Dirge by pits of ash;do the madmen dwell with carving knives;their hair they tear and teeth they gnash;in torment of their broken lives
pause 15
put sing And farthest north in the broken lands;are the flaming sprites borne of fire;wielding swords in two graceful hands;they weave a dance of malice and ire
pause 15
put sing But now to south across Segoltha river;the dangers do not diminish;and the evil there shall make ye shiver;before this song doth come to finish
pause 15
put sing For there does stand the Forest of Night;wherein live dryads and nyads mad;whose torment is a horrid blight;upon those who once fair souls had
pause 15
put sing But then the greatest evil of all;doth dwell in that forest near the city of Leth;for within the nightly misty wall;are the most dangerous grey pale spirits of death
pause 15
put sing And forget not the vermin that infest our own town;for rats and silverfish haunt shipyard above;and also dank sewers far underground;though they be the least of the beasts I speak of
pause 15
put sing So now ye have all the lore that ye need;and I hope it shall keep ye from being harmed;the words of this song I bid ye to heed;for as they say...
pause 15
put sing To be fore-warned is to be fore-armed!
